|Dizzy Pitch
Dizzy 'teaser' - Co-directed, edited, modeled and animated. The dizzy pitch video is a good example of the pitches I created in my time at Blitz games, and shows how careful planning can create an impressive effect with tight resources.I worked together with head of art Steve Thompson to put together a storyboard that could be realized in a very tight time schedule. By limiting the assets required we were able to make sure what was on screen didn't betray its 1 week schedule. Three thirds of the video is essentially a slideshow of concept art, with a simple book model and a single page turn animation re-used again and again. The action segment at the end was cut very quickly to hide the rough edges. Levels were taken from Zapper and Dizzy himself was animated using character studio and motion files from other titles. The video was created over just a few days with a team of four: Myself, Steve Thompson, Bryn williams and Matt Nowlege. Bryn and Steve worked on the Artwork and textures, while myself and Matt modeled and animated. Simon smith wrote the script and it was recorded by a professional voice artist. I created an animatic from the storyboard and updated it daily as the footage came together. This works wonderfully for team morale - everyone knows what were working towards and people are eager to fill in the blanks.I feel the end result captured the spirit of an updated Dizzy and made a big impression with Codemasters. Sadly this was 2002, and with most of the industry declaring the platformer dead, codemasters decided not to proceed with a game. |
